An Ode To Applesauce

The bottle sat on the shelf in my

food storage room, so it’s still cold.

I twist the lid open, and regard the

 applesauce, untouched and perfect formed,

with satisfaction. I pour myself a serving,

gooey and unusually sweet,

seeing as it came from a case, and

popped into the microwave for a warm snack

on the verge of a weekend.

A dash of cinnimon and surgar helps

with the sweet taste; however,

I steal a another glance at the bottle:

“Best by 7-13-10”

It’s now March of 2011. Oh.

No wonder it tasted so sweet.
